ABOUT US

Un Hogar en el Camino, is a Christian non-profit, non-political organization dedicated the rescue and development of children and youth who wish to better themselves but have limited resources to do so, regardless of their background be it religious, ethnicity or gender. They develop their activities on the streets, most of them becoming shoe shiners, who from an early age are forced into this line of work just to survive. If they are never given the opportunity or chance to broaden their horizon, they’ll never know their true potential.

Aware of the need, on October 24th, 2005 “Un Hogar en el Camino” was legally established with the intent of developing labour insertion programs and to fight against social exclusion created by the extreme poverty in which they were born and raised. Not just their economic limitation but other elements that cause marginalization such as:

  • Little to no access to education, no health care, abuse.
  • No social or moral values.
  • High percentage of drug and alcohol abuse.
  • No orientation or protection, most come from small villages or towns to the capital in search of a better life or a better opportunity.
  • Finally lack of jobs.

Since starting this humanitarian work, we’ve seen a change in their lives and the impact we are having.

“These kids want to try and make it on their own but end of choosing the wrong path, which ends up reducing their life expectancy to 22 years. Since starting this humanitarian work, we’ve seen a change in their lives and the impact we are having”.
